About this event
This presentation aims to explore the critical intersections of trauma, racism, and mental health, emphasizing the need for culturally-informed care. We will begin with a brief review of the literature, highlighting how trauma and racism intersect to impact mental health outcomes and the growing need for care that is both trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. Next, we will introduce the National Center for Child Traumatic Stress (NCCTS) and the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN) “Principles of an Anti-racist, Trauma-informed Organization.” These principles provide a framework for integrating antiracist practices into trauma-informed care, promoting equitable and effective mental health services for all individuals. To illustrate these principles in action, we will present several examples that demonstrate how anti-racist principles and trauma-informed care practices can be applied to address the complex interplay of trauma and racism in mental health care. These real-world examples will offer practical insights and strategies for practitioners. Finally, we will utilize an interactive platform to encourage participants to share their experiences and strategies for integrating anti-racist principles into trauma care. These discussions will foster a collaborative environment where attendees can learn from each other and develop actionable plans to enhance their practice.
