About this event
Child sexual abuse is one of the most difficult crimes to investigate and prosecute. This webinar will review a retrospective analysis of 500 child sexual abuse (CSA) cases referred for prosecution in 4 counties in one state. The purpose of the study was to examine the dynamics of the case details to explore case trajectories and barriers to prosecution. Only a small portion of cases move forward with prosecution. Other clinical, judicial, and family outcomes beyond and besides prosecution will be discussed. The role of non-offending caregivers in moving forward with prosecution will be discussed. Barriers to prosecution will also be reviewed, including medical evidence and issues pertaining to the circumstances of abuse disclosure. Delays in disclosure and what triggered children to report will be reviewed. The webinar will also highlight recent follow up work involving qualitative interviews with non-offending caregivers of sexually abused children, and other non-prosecutorial outcomes in these cases. How providers can support clients and their families in the reporting process will be discussed.
Registration closes Nov 17, 2025 at 12pm EST. Non-refundable fees: Students or NO CE Credits – FREE; 1 CE Credit - $15 (for Division 37 members)/$35 (for non-Div 37 members).
