About this event

There is widespread concern about the mental health harms of social media use particularly for youth, sparking numerous widespread policy changes including restricting or altogether banning youth engagement with social media. A growing body of research suggests that associations between social media use and mental health are complex, with the strength of associations between social media use and outcomes contingent on numerous interacting factors such as individual differences and types of use. This webinar will review the contexts and characteristics in which social media use may have divergent associations with mental health harms, with a special focus on how various well-established psychological theories may unfold and be transformed by social media environments. At the conclusion of the webinar, attendees will have an understanding of the nuances of social media environments and how effects, particularly among youth, are not uniform.

Registration closes Sept 14, 2025 at 12pm EST. Non-refundable fees: Students or NO CE Credits – FREE; 1 CE Credit - $15 (for APA Div 37 members ONLY)/$35 (for non-Div 37 members).
